ABVP Seeks Central University for Andaman & Nicobar, Calls for Review of Higher-Education Restructuring

Sri Vijaya Puram | 11 August 2026 The Andaman & Nicobar Islands unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has submitted a six-page memorandum to Vice-President of India and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha C. P. Radhakrishnan , seeking intervention on higher education, youth opportunities and long-term development in the Islands. The memorandum, dated 8 August 2026 , places the establishment of a full-fledged Central University in the Union Territory among its principal demands. According to ABVP, geographical isolation limits access for students to specialised higher education, advanced research facilities, professional courses and employment opportunities. MP Bishnu Pada Ray Raises Eight Pending Issues of Islanders with Union Home Minister Amit Shah

New Delhi | 10 August 2026 Member of Parliament from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Shri Bishnu Pada Ray met Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum seeking early resolution of eight issues concerning the Islanders. According to the memorandum, the issues raised cover employment, higher education, development funding, local governance, rehabilitation, healthcare and the regularisation of long-serving workers. A key demand was the introduction of a Domicile Law providing 100% job reservation for Islanders , along with an upper age limit of 40 years for Group-B (Non-Gazetted) and Group-C posts. The memorandum seeks such provisions on the lines of arrangements referred to by the MP in relation to the Union Territory of Ladakh. Ray has previously raised similar demands in Parliament.
