  09 Sep 2026, Chennai:  A social media post by Andaman Nicobar Democratic Congress (ANDC) leader Manoj Paul has sparked discussion about educational exposure and career aspirations among children in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In a video shared by Paul, he is seen travelling in an autorickshaw in Chennai and interacting with two young passengers. When asked about their future aspirations, one child, who says he is studying in Class 9 , says he wants to become a Chartered Accountant (CA) . Another child, identified in the post as Mukundan , says he wants to become an aerospace engineer . Paul appreciates the children for having what he describes as a clear vision for their future. Port Blair: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Andaman & Nicobar Islands State President Dr Arun Kumar Mallik has urged the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to follow up on recommendations and actions proposed by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) concerning enforcement against overloaded commercial goods vehicles and the construction of additional weighbridges along National Highway-4 (NH-4) . In a letter dated 7 September 2026 addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman District, Mallik referred to an earlier request regarding an additional weighbridge on NH-4, mandatory use of the existing Mile Tilak weighbridge by commercial goods vehicles, exemption of weighbridge user fees for vehicles transporting fresh vegetables, and continuation of the 12-tonne maximum truck-load restriction on vehicle ferries . Bhasker , has urged the Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands to personally travel along National Highway-4 from Jirkatang to Diglipur and assess the condition of the road and the difficulties faced by residents of North and Middle Andaman. In a press release, Bhasker said NH-4, which he described as the lifeline of North and Middle Andaman, continues to remain in poor and deteriorating condition despite repeated assurances regarding its improvement and completion. New Wild Brinjal Species Discovered in Andaman Forests

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 22: In a significant addition to India's botanical knowledge, scientists from the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) have discovered a new species of wild brinjal in the evergreen forests of Middle Andaman . The discovery highlights the exceptional biodiversity of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and their importance as a global ecological hotspot. The newly identified species, named Solanum pandeyi , was discovered by Dr. Lal Ji Singh , Head of the Botanical Survey of India's Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre. The plant was found growing naturally along forest edges in Middle Andaman and is locally known as the Wild Orange Eggplant . According to Dr. Singh, the species has long been used by the indigenous Great Andamanese community for both food and traditional medicine. The visit covered multiple villages and settlements between Kadamtala and Mayabunder, where Shri Bhasker reviewed the ground situation and interacted with residents affected by the floods. During the visit, he met affected families, visited inundated households and listened to firsthand accounts of the difficulties being faced by local residents.
