Operators resume activities after temporary understanding; commission, staff-payment and long-term operating issues remain unresolved Swaraj Dweep , September 15, 2026: Water-sports activities at Swaraj Dweep (Havelock) resumed on Tuesday following discussions between local water-sports operators, boat owners, boat staff and the administration over booking arrangements , operational rights , licensing, safety requirements and livelihood concerns. The standoff reportedly followed the establishment of a new booking counter operated by Blue Fly at the water-sports location. Local operators and boat owners objected to the arrangement, expressing concern that it could affect the existing system through which they operate and earn from activities including snorkeling and other marine tourism services. Operators also raised concerns over commission-based earnings , particularly for boat staff whose income, according to stakeholders, includes commissions linked to water-sports activities....

Little Andaman Hosts National-Level Surfing Championship at Butler Bay

Port Blair , 18 Apr : Little Andaman has recently hosted a national-level surfing competition, marking a notable development in India’s water sports landscape. The event, titled Little Andaman Pro 2026 , was conducted at Butler Bay over a period of four days and saw participation from surfers representing different parts of the country. In the main competition categories, Sivaraj Babu secured the top position in the men’s open division, while Kamali Moorthy emerged as the winner in the women’s open category. Kamali Moorthy also recorded the highest score of the event, making her performance one of the key highlights of the championship. Apart from traditional surfing events, the competition also included Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) sprint races , expanding the scope of participation. In these events, Dinesh Selvamani won the men’s category, while Vijayalakshmi Irulappan secured the top position in the women’s category.
