MP Bishnu Pada Ray Hands Over MPLADS Pick-Up Vans to Sabri and Shivapur Gram Panchayats

Mayabunder : Hon’ble Member of Parliament for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray , handed over two pick-up vans sanctioned under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) to Gram Panchayats Sabri and Shivapur at the Deputy Commissioner's Office in Mayabunder. The handover took place in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner, Zilla Parishad members and representatives of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) . The two vehicles will be utilised by the respective Gram Panchayats for garbage collection and sanitation-related activities , according to the information released regarding the handover. The initiative is intended to strengthen local waste-management facilities and improve the ability of the two panchayats to carry out regular garbage collection. Mukta Dhara Society Urges SVPMC to Improve Public Dustbins and Waste Management

Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), Andaman & Nicobar Islands | 6 August 2026 Mukta Dhara Society has submitted a representation to the Secretary, Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) seeking the installation of additional public dustbins and improvements in sanitation and solid waste management as part of its " Become the Change – Clean Andaman Initiative ," being conducted in collaboration with Dweep Tulika News .  In the representation, the Society stated that interactions with residents across various wards had highlighted concerns regarding the inadequate availability of public dustbins in markets, parks, beaches, bus stops and other high-footfall areas. It also referred to complaints about open garbage collection points , which were said to attract stray animals and contribute to scattered waste, foul odours and unhygienic conditions.  To address these concerns, Mukta Dhara Society requested the Municipal Council to install covered twin dustbins for wet and dry w...
