SFI Seeks Temporary STS Bus Diversion to JNRM via RGT Road

Port Blair, September 10, 2026:  The Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has urged the State Transport Services (STS) to temporarily divert college-timing buses through RGT Road directly towards JNRM College to ease difficulties faced by students travelling from southern parts of South Andaman . In a representation dated September 10, 2026, addressed to the Director of STS, SFI State Convenor Abdul Warish said students travelling to JNRM from areas including Jirkatang , Namunaghar, Mithakhari, Ferrargunj, Tushnabad, Wandoor, Chouldhari and surrounding areas were facing inconvenience due to traffic arrangements linked to the ongoing police recruitment process . According to the representation, STS buses carrying JNRM students are currently being dropped near Netaji Stadium, after which students have to walk approximately 2 kilometres to reach the college. ABVP Seeks Central University for Andaman & Nicobar, Calls for Review of Higher-Education Restructuring

Sri Vijaya Puram | 11 August 2026 The Andaman & Nicobar Islands unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has submitted a six-page memorandum to Vice-President of India and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha C. P. Radhakrishnan , seeking intervention on higher education, youth opportunities and long-term development in the Islands. The memorandum, dated 8 August 2026 , places the establishment of a full-fledged Central University in the Union Territory among its principal demands. According to ABVP, geographical isolation limits access for students to specialised higher education, advanced research facilities, professional courses and employment opportunities. The organisation has proposed an island-specific higher-education model connecting education and research with employment, healthcare, tourism, the blue economy , environmental studies and strategic development.
