Chennai, June 27: Since taking oath as Chief Minister on 10 May 2026, C. Joseph Vijay has initiated a series of administrative decisions, welfare measures and policy directions aimed at implementing the government's election commitments and strengthening public service delivery across Tamil Nadu . During its first Cabinet meeting, the government reviewed 436 election promises and development projects, directing all departments to prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for time-bound implementation. Progress is being monitored through the Special Programme Implementation Department with an emphasis on transparency and corruption-free governance. Among the government's flagship initiatives is the " Lady Singham " women's safety programme, aimed at strengthening women's police patrols, improving emergency response systems and ensuring faster action against crimes against women. Tiruvallur/New Delhi, June 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives following a tragic ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing facility in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district . The incident occurred at a seafood export unit near Periyapalayam in Tiruvallur district, where ammonia gas reportedly leaked from an industrial refrigeration system used for seafood preservation. According to reports, the leak affected a large number of workers present at the facility. Initial reports indicated two deaths, but later updates suggested that the death toll had risen to seven. More than 60 workers were reportedly hospitalised after suffering breathing difficulties and other symptoms associated with ammonia exposure .
