AAP’s Arun Kumar Mallik Seeks Follow-Up on NHIDCL Action Report, Pushes for Additional NH-4 Weighbridges

Port Blair: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Andaman & Nicobar Islands State President Dr Arun Kumar Mallik has urged the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to follow up on recommendations and actions proposed by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) concerning enforcement against overloaded commercial goods vehicles and the construction of additional weighbridges along National Highway-4 (NH-4) . In a letter dated 7 September 2026 addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman District, Mallik referred to an earlier request regarding an additional weighbridge on NH-4, mandatory use of the existing Mile Tilak weighbridge by commercial goods vehicles, exemption of weighbridge user fees for vehicles transporting fresh vegetables, and continuation of the 12-tonne maximum truck-load restriction on vehicle ferries . Weigh Bridge, NH-4 and Higher Education: AAP’s Dr Arun Kumar Mallik Outlines Demands and Government Follow-Up Port Blair : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Andaman & Nicobar State President Dr Arun Kumar Mallik addressed a press briefing covering two broad sets of issues concerning the islands — the operation and enforcement of weigh bridges and weight restrictions along NH-4, and a range of higher-education concerns, including the proposed private university regulation, introduction of a BBA course in North & Middle Andaman, and preference for local candidates in guest lecturer appointments. G. Bhasker Urges Lt. Governor to Personally Inspect NH-4 from Jirkatang to Diglipur

Sri Vijaya Puram: Chairman of the Campaign Committee of the Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), Shri G. Bhasker , has urged the Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands to personally travel along National Highway-4 from Jirkatang to Diglipur and assess the condition of the road and the difficulties faced by residents of North and Middle Andaman. In a press release, Bhasker said NH-4, which he described as the lifeline of North and Middle Andaman, continues to remain in poor and deteriorating condition despite repeated assurances regarding its improvement and completion. Bhasker recalled the Chakka Jam organised by the Congress Party on November 1, 2025 , which, according to him, was subsequently called off following assurances concerning the improvement and completion of NH-4.
