SFI Seeks Temporary STS Bus Diversion to JNRM via RGT Road

Port Blair, September 10, 2026:  The Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has urged the State Transport Services (STS) to temporarily divert college-timing buses through RGT Road directly towards JNRM College to ease difficulties faced by students travelling from southern parts of South Andaman . In a representation dated September 10, 2026, addressed to the Director of STS, SFI State Convenor Abdul Warish said students travelling to JNRM from areas including Jirkatang , Namunaghar, Mithakhari, Ferrargunj, Tushnabad, Wandoor, Chouldhari and surrounding areas were facing inconvenience due to traffic arrangements linked to the ongoing police recruitment process . According to the representation, STS buses carrying JNRM students are currently being dropped near Netaji Stadium, after which students have to walk approximately 2 kilometres to reach the college. Maharashtra Tightens Marathi Language Checks for Auto, Taxi and App-Based Cab Drivers

Mumbai | August 23, 2026 The Maharashtra government has intensified enforcement of its Marathi language requirement for autorickshaw, taxi and app-based cab drivers, with Regional Transport Office (RTO) teams conducting checks across the state. Under the latest enforcement drive, drivers are being assessed on their basic working knowledge of Marathi through a 16-question oral test based on situations they commonly encounter while working. Drivers who fail to demonstrate adequate proficiency are being issued notices and given one month to improve their language skills . Continued non-compliance could result in suspension of their driver badges. The enforcement follows a 105-day training and assessment programme . As of August 16, around 7,750 drivers had failed the proficiency test , while another 17,427 had not completed the required training .
