Thousands of CBSE Class 12 students recorded higher scores after the board re-evaluated answer sheets following concerns over its new digital evaluation process.
New Delhi, June 23:
Thousands of CBSE Class 12 students have witnessed a significant increase in their examination scores after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) completed the re-evaluation of answer sheets under its newly introduced digital assessment system.
According to CBSE, nearly 1.6 lakh students applied for re-evaluation after concerns were raised regarding discrepancies in the evaluation process. On June 21, the board released revised results for around 1.39 lakh candidates, while the remaining results are expected to be declared in phases.
The issue surfaced after the introduction of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for evaluating answer sheets during the 2026 examination cycle. Several students reported problems such as blurry scanned answer sheets, missing pages, absent maps or graphs, and instances where answers were allegedly evaluated using marking schemes meant for different question paper sets.
Following the review process, many students saw noticeable improvements in their marks, raising fresh discussions about the implementation and quality control of digital evaluation systems.
Education experts have observed that while digital assessment offers advantages such as faster processing and improved record management, it also requires robust quality checks to ensure fairness and accuracy.
CBSE has stated that the remaining re-evaluation results will be announced shortly. The board also said it is working to address concerns related to the digital evaluation system and strengthen transparency and reliability in future examination assessments.
