CISF Plans Integrated Facial Recognition Network for Airports and Strategic Installations

CISF plans to integrate facial recognition cameras at airports and nearly 1.5 lakh surveillance cameras at strategic locations into a central data fusion centre in Delhi.

New Delhi, June 23:

Facial recognition cameras installed at major airports across India and surveillance systems at key strategic installations are set to be integrated into a proposed central data fusion centre in Delhi, according to CISF Director General Praveer Ranjan.

The initiative aims to strengthen real-time surveillance, improve threat detection and enhance coordination among security agencies by linking facial recognition technology with the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID).

Speaking during the foundation-laying ceremony of the new CISF headquarters at the CGO Complex in New Delhi, the CISF chief said that the proposed system will enable security agencies to identify suspects more efficiently and respond quickly to potential threats.

In addition to airport surveillance systems, video feeds from nearly 1.5 lakh CCTV cameras installed at vital installations protected by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) across the country will also be connected to the data fusion centre.

Officials believe the integrated platform will provide a unified security network capable of analysing large volumes of surveillance data in real time, thereby strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure and other sensitive locations.

The project forms part of the government's broader efforts to modernise India's internal security architecture by leveraging advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, facial recognition and data analytics.

Once operational, the integrated surveillance network is expected to improve situational awareness, facilitate faster information sharing between agencies and reinforce security at airports and other strategic assets nationwide.
