China Calls for Faster Revival of India-China Dialogue Mechanisms
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged India and China to accelerate the resumption of suspended bilateral dialogue mechanisms as both countries continue efforts to stabilize relations after years of border tensions.
New Delhi, June 23:
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on India and China to speed up the resumption of several bilateral dialogue mechanisms that had remained suspended following years of border tensions.
The remarks were made during a meeting with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisers' Meeting.
According to Chinese officials, Wang emphasized the need to strengthen communication, expand cooperation and restore regular exchanges across multiple sectors. He said both countries should work together to accelerate the revival of dialogue platforms that had been paused in recent years.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed recent developments in bilateral relations and acknowledged the gradual progress made towards normalising ties. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Officials said both countries reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), while continuing diplomatic engagement to address differences through dialogue.
The discussions come as India and China continue efforts to rebuild trust following the prolonged military standoff along the eastern Ladakh border that began in 2020.
Observers believe that restoring regular diplomatic, economic and security dialogue mechanisms could help improve communication, reduce misunderstandings and contribute to greater stability in India-China relations.
While challenges remain, the latest meeting signals continued engagement between the two Asian neighbours as they seek to gradually normalise bilateral ties.
